Important Update – USCIS Ends Automatic EAD Extensions Effective October 30, 2025
Dear Nurses,
We want to make you aware of a new U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) rule that will
directly impact employment authorization renewals.
Effective October 30, 2025, USCIS will end automatic extensions of Employment Authorization
Documents (EADs) for renewal applications filed on or after that date.
This means that anyone filing an EAD renewal after October 30, 2025, will not be allowed to continue
working once their current EAD expires unless the new card has already been approved.
EAD renewals filed before October 30, 2025, will continue to benefit from the existing 540-day automatic
extension rule.
This affects nurses under the following categories:
All categories that previously received automatic extensions, including:
A03 (Refugees), A05 (Asylees), A07 (N-8/N-9 Dependents), A08 (Citizens of Micronesia/Marshall
Islands/Palau), A10 (Withholding of Removal), A17 (Spouse of E-1/E-2 Treaty Trader or Investor),
A18 (Spouse of L-1 Intracompany Transferee), A20 (Suspension of Deportation/Cancellation of Removal),
C08 (Asylum Applicant – Pending), C09 (Adjustment of Status Applicant), C10 (Cancellation/Suspension
Applicant), C16 (Registry Applicant), C20 (Section 210 Legalization), C22 (INA 245A Legalization),
C24 (LIFE Act Legalization), C26 (H-4 Dependent Spouse), and C31 (VAWA Self-Petitioner).
Action Required:
To prevent any interruption in your ability to work, we strongly advise all nurses to begin the renewal process
at least six months (180 days) before your EAD expires. This early filing will help ensure continuous work
authorization while your renewal is processed.
Our immigration team will continue to monitor USCIS updates and assist you in preparing your renewals. If
you have questions or need help reviewing your EAD expiration timeline, please contact the immigration team
directly.
Thank you for your attention to this important update.
Sincerely,
ADEX Immigration & Compliance Team
